Okay, so maybe a massive flashmob like that depicted in our own featured image may have been a bit hyperbolous, as a suprisingly small number of Community fans appeared for the planned flashmob this afternoon at 30 Rockfeller.
The Community, which is shown on NBC on Thursdays at 8pm, is one of those dry humor shows that most people either love or just don’t get. Well now that NBC has announced that the Community will be canceled to make room for 30 Rock, a relatively small group of die-hard fans of the Community decided to bring the show to NBC…literally.
As stated on the facebook fan page for the Community protest, at 1pm, a modest number of Community fans decended upon 30 Rockfeller Center in order to perform a flashmob. The flashmob consisted primarily of the singing of “Oh Christmas Troy” (Troy being a character on the show) and the chanting of “Go Greendale” (Greendale being the fictional name of the show’s community college).
With the twitter tags for this event being #savecommunity and #occupynbc, one has to wonder if these are former OccupyWallStreeters in search of a new cause.(I mean, who else besides college students on winter break has time to flashmob during the middle of the work day?)
No public comment has been made by either NBC Universal or Tishman Speyer (owner of the Rockefeller Plaza complex and sponsor of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree).
However, Community actress, Yvette Nicole Brown told the Hollywood Reporter that “at some point someone was going to have to step to the side and let [30 Rock] back on Thursday nights. NBC is a business. They have to make business decisions. This goes beyond what executives there feel about the show. The executives there love our show.”
